If I was to guess, I’d say the cause is environmental, nutritional, structural, hydrational, and perhaps the need for a little more sleep.

Crowned roads, rain, ice, wind, snow, cold, and weight that is not dropping on its own contributed to a tightened calf the other day.  Add possibly not drinking enough before the run and sometimes being really tired and the result appears to be a leveling of improvement.  Not to mention the mileage and intensity really isn’t anything to stimulate the old muscles yet.
